Fueling the Collector Car Hobby
Fueling the Collector Car Hobby
There are few events in the world that illicit the same passion for the collector car hobby like Collector Car Auction week in Scottsdale, Arizona. Every January collectors from around the world, along with top OEMs and high profile builders, descend like sunshine on the desert oasis to ring in the New Year with the carols of engine revs and RPMs.
While several auction houses, (i.e. RM Auctions, Gooding and Mecum) are represented during the week, Barrett-Jackson undeniably sits comfortably at the epicenter of the auction action. When the exhaust settled on Sunday from the auction of more than 1,800 vehicles, Barrett-Jackson announced its total sales were in excess of $131.6 million.
And folks, that’s good news for the collector car hobby! Barrett-Jackson’s event reminded us, more than anything, that the market is dynamic and evolutionary. Chairman and CEO, Craig Jackson, said that this year’s auction highlighted several emerging trends, namely the growth of younger enthusiasts and buyers, along with a high demand for supercars and professionally built Resto-Mods.
His comments were supported by the fact that the top ten (non-charity) sales for the weekend were all late model supercars, like the top seller – a 2019 McLaren Senna that hammered in at $1,457,500. On the Resto-Mod side, a 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air Custom Convertible sold for $363,000.
There’s no doubt that this is one of the most exciting times in history to be a car enthusiast. The market is absolutely firing on all cylinders and Barrett-Jackson is fueling that passion.
