Hi, I’m Dennis Dehn, and welcome to the neon garage here at Garages of America.
It’s been five years. We were standing in dirt right where we’re all standing right now, and we looked around, We said, ‘God, this is awesome. What a place to retire and what a place to have fun.’ It just happens instantly; how people get together, the birthday parties, the new babies coming in, everybody likes to have fun. Sometimes they have too much fun.
Next week, Charmaine will be out of town for 10 days, and I go, ‘well, you’ll know where I’m at.’ I really didn’t have that at home. I enjoy working on my cars at my leisure, at my own pace. We’re in a beautiful place. I have a Shiba Inu that I can put on her leash; we can walk over to the green space, and she has her own room. When it’s like this, it’s quiet. If I want to turn my speakers up and let it rattle, go for it.
These signs that hang up behind me, some of them are very close to me because I used to sell that product as a truck driver in Denver, Colorado, and worked for my dad very shortly at a high-end Conoco in a rich neighborhood. As time went on, I opened my own concourse shop, a reconditioning facility in Denver, where I wrote reconditioning procedures for Ford Motor Company, Toyota Certified, General Motors and Isuzu. Traveling overseas, met with some inventors. That’s what birthed the Tornador cleaning tool. Yeah, there’s a lot of things I did in life. Were they all 100% right? No way. And I’m glad I stubbed my toe along the way, because I wouldn’t be sitting here. I enjoy my model room. That’s a passion I’ve had ever since I was a child. Started out with a tabletop train, that’s all the family could afford. And Charmaine goes to different sales and buys lots of Hot Wheels. Okay, young man, what did you like best about the garages today? Did you have a favorite car? And usually, they’ll pick out the car. They clamor to get their picture on there. So just to see that family light up and the kids light up, that is a big plus.
Garages of America really made a statement when they purchased the driving range and put those buildings up. Their vision is very strong. And the people that were interested would ask, ‘Would you do it again? Are you happy with your decision?’ I go ‘look around; you’re you’re here all the time. Yes, I’m very happy.’ I’ve been married 50 years. That’s her little hot rod. I fit all of them, hers and mine, and we love driving them and having fun.
