Hi, I’m Rick Doss, and welcome to my garage.
What happened? There was a Cars and Coffee event. There was an opportunity for me to discuss this possibility with Jack and Fred. And then, sure enough, that opportunity came up because they kept in touch with me, and they said, hey, guess what? We’re going to build in Allen now. And so I was super excited. I’ve been waiting for a while. I’m a car enthusiast. At the time, I think I had three Porsches, and I certainly needed a place to store them, to have my own personal garage, and to connect with a like-minded community. This seemed fantastic to me.
So when I bought the garage, as with any owner, I wanted my own imprint. Being a Porsche owner, you can see the Porsche sign, and I wanted a modern look to it. You’ll see some that are very rustic. There are so many colors and choices on these floors. It’s insane, you know, from the light cans and so forth to that wooden header there. So yeah, it was a project I liked. I like how it turned out.
We also camped, and I had a Sprinter RV, which I used to park right here. We’ve visited Yosemite, Yellowstone, and a few other national parks, and so we like to be outdoors. My son had a Ducati 959, so he had his bike up here. And I really wanted a gym. My son uses it as well. So it’s great; I’m just five minutes away, so I can drive over and work out. Don’t get me wrong, my wife has stuff stored in a closet here. We got Christmas stuff, everything you can imagine. So it’s been great for that, too. I have a three-car garage at home, but it won’t hold all this.
There have been plenty of times that I’ve either been over at somebody else’s garage hanging out, just shooting the breeze, or they’ve been over to my place. So it’s a great venue for that kind of stuff. In fact, my wife surprised me with a birthday party, and she wanted to have it here, so it became a great venue. We had chairs and tables, everything set up, and everybody had a blast. It’s certainly an extension of our home, but this is just so much cooler.
Last year, I was voted in as the president of the HOA here, and so we run a tight ship. You know, the properties are clean. They’re kept up and clean because I want to ensure that for me as an owner, as well as all the other owners, our value stays up when we ever decide to sell; it’s going to be worth a lot more than what we initially paid. So, I feel that’s a great responsibility that I need to lead and take charge of.
It’s been a joy being here, not only meeting new friends and so forth, but also having a place like this. I feel very blessed, and I would highly recommend it.
